Cold Song is a poem adapted from a performance text by Daniel Larrieu about his experience of the "AIDS years". Seeing himself as part of the last generation to have lived by the motto ‘let us live joyfully, let us live in secret’, the choreographer reflects on the multifaceted violence of that period and the long silence that followed. Accompanied by drawings and photographs, this book explores the extreme notions of living with and dying with, as well as the intertwining of the worlds of the living and the dead. The time has come for Daniel Larrieu to bear witness to the "darkening" of his life.
Daniel Larrieu is one of the leading figures in French contemporary dance. A dancer, choreographer and director of the Centre Chorégraphique National de Tours (1994–2002), Daniel Larrieu has been developing a multifaceted body of work for over 40 years within the Daniel Larrieu, Astrakan collection. Chiquenaudes revealed the originality of his choreographic language and won second prize at the Bagnolet Competition in 1982. Since then, he has created numerous works. He lives in Haute-Savoie, dividing his time between his garden, writing, drawing and running his company.
